Container

Programme Aim: Where resources are scarce, the container allows Starfish to dispatch desperately needed items to Malawi so that we can express our desire to "love our neighbour" and give generously. We send this out once or twice a year, depending on demand.

We hire out space at £190 per cubic metre. Schools will often send educational materials to their link school in Malawi, where resources are scarce.

During the many years we have been sending the container we have sent over numerous Singer sewing machines, 17,000 pairs of shoes, bicycles, clothes for Glad Tidings Orphan care, blankets, wheelchairs….in fact anything that is considered to be of value in Malawi.

We sent our last container to Malawi on 22 September 2016.

Christian Practice

In a land of plenty, we are not aware of the great needs of others in the world, who live in poverty. The Gross Domestic Product of Malawi is only £180 per person per year. The Bible repeatedly encourages us to be open-handed to the poor. Generosity is one of the hallmarks of the Christian character.

Acts 20:35 says, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. ”
