Starfish Malawi and Project Malawi both began in 2003 by the will and in the purposes of God. Both had common objectives and a vision to contribute to a just world where every child is educated, healthy and cared for, to reduce extreme poverty and build the Kingdom of God in the lives of children, through collaborative work within communities, schools and churches.
David and Gillian Mason, the founders of PM, built the work with dedication and enthusiasm for many years.
With the sad passing of David the Trustees of Project Malawi felt it appropriate to approach Starfish with a view to us taking responsibility for the administration of the support for the work taking place at Elizabeth Hope House - a centre for 48 girls to live in safety. The support includes accommodation costs for some of the girls residing at Elizabeth Hope house, a weekly feeding programme, school tuition fees for 37 pupils and the provision of school uniforms. The work is located at Nsaru, a district on the outskirts of Lilongwe.
A number of the Starfish committee members had the privilege to visit Nsaru and saw the work being carried out there first hand. All were impressed with the peace and tranquility of the location a real testament to the Director, Rutherford Banda.
The work at Nsaru will now be known as Madalitso, which means Blessings, and that is what we hope to continue in honour of David and Gillian Mason.
