Bible Explorer

“Brilliant! A vivid way to explore the Old Testament. The pupils really enjoy learning in such a lively and varied way. A definite highlight in the year 5 curriculum.” - Natasha Patrick, Year 5 Teacher, Forest & Sandridge School

Who does it help?

Children in Key Stage 2 (years 5 and 6 in the UK) and Standards 5 and 6 (in Malawi) in schools in Malawi and in communities within the UK. The programme is currently working in 57 schools, reaching 7,979. Since the programme begun in 2012 the number of children who have been impacted is approx 64,775.

What does it involve?

The aim of Bible Explorer is to teach children the storyline of the Bible - the big picture. Bible Explorer is non-denominational, non-confessional and non-conversionary. Bible Explorer uses storytelling, drama, videos, multi-media and more, to ensure that all learning styles connect with the subject matter

Our Starfish team consists of 2 trained Bible Explorer presenters in the UK and 9 in Malawi. This educational programme is taught exclusively in schools to children in Key Stage 2 (years 5 and 6 in the UK) and Standards 5 and 6 (in Malawi). There is a series of five, one hour lessons of the Old Testament and five, one hour lessons for the New Testament

Why are we doing this?

Bible Explorer helps children to understand the Word of God in a fun and interesting way. As a Christian charity, we seek to build the Kingdom of God in the lives of children throughout Malawi and the UK, Bible Explorer is just one of the many ways we achieve this.

The Bible is God’s book. As young people fashion their lives and identify their priorities, they need to discover the one great truth that they are made in the image of God. Jesus says “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6).

Bible Explorer enables boys and girls to discover the Big Picture of God’s Plan and Purposes and how He has come into the world as a rescuer. Through telling the stories of the Bible by using creative and stimulating activities, boys and girls are able to memorise Scripture and enjoy the key themes of the Bible and to build upon these as they grow up.

FACT: 7,500 children are taught the Bible annually through Bible Explorer.

The school featured in the film below is one of our linked schools, (Chikombola) and Starfish Malawi is the only organisation in Malawi involved in Bible Explorer.

Bible Explorer Programme started as a pilot project in 2012 in the following Schools; Msalura, Kaputu, Simaewa and Salima L.E.A with the objective of bringing the kingdom of God in the lives of Children

The Bible Explorer presenter’s goal is to provide Bible knowledge through sharing the various stories to raise spiritual awareness and encourage good life choices for children of all faiths. The presenters use props, pictures, hand signs, story-telling and discuss how they can be applied to real life situations.
