Malawi faces a desperate food crisis during the “hungry months“, which are from January to April every year.

Over half the population lives in poverty and 1/5 in extreme poverty.

Starfish Malawi, in partnership with Rye Bakeries will provide 250,000 meals feeding over 3000 children during these months.

Every hot drink sold in Rye Bakeries will mean a donation of 4p to Starfish Malawi, which is equal to the price of a meal!

This meal is so cheap because the families of the children in the local schools will do all the work in the fields, such as weeding, composting, planting and harvesting the crop and also be providing volunteer cooks. In addition, new and more sustainable planting methods are being taught to the parents and their children to ensure a better life into the future.

3000 children, who otherwise would have gone hungry and many probably miss school, will be fed during this period.

We would love to tell you a lot more, if you are interested, please contact chrisknott@starfishmalawi.com

A well-fed child is ready to learn and succeed. They will attend school regularly and be attentive in the classroom, allowing them to succeed in their exams. The alternative is often absenteeism and a very challenging future. Thank you for your support and know that your great drink does far more than you could have ever imagined.

Thank you
