Dear Friends and Supporters,
This month we want to share news about the community feeding programme, introduce you to Fydon, our feeding programme co-ordinator, and to update you about the container packing plus a few topics from recent annual reports.
We are so grateful for your support of our work and thank God that He continues to enable the work to grow and flourish.
Community Feeding Programme
We are in the “Hungry Months” when food is scarce and many go without.
This programme is therefore essential and is going well with hundreds of children being given a free meal when they arrive at school. The programme is across three schools which are also producing their own maize from their school fields.
The impact is shown by higher attendance in classes as the children know they are going to receive a meal. This will also make a difference to their learning, concentration and ability to interact with teachers.
We appreciate the continued support and funding being given by Rye Bakery for this project.

Introduction to Fydon Masakatira
My name is Fydon Masakatira. I am married to Clara, and we have 5 children, 4 daughters and a son. I am a retired teacher who served the Malawi government services for a long time as a Headteacher and later appointed as a Primary Education Advisor (PEA).
I am now working with Starfish Malawi as the co-ordinator for the school feeding/farming project. I co-ordinate all the necessary requirements for this in three schools; Chikuluti, Chitiwiri and Katitima.
Container
We have a large amount of resources being packed into the container in Maidstone at the moment.
There are still two packing days, Monday, 16th March 2 pm – 5 pm and Wednesday, 18th March 10 am – 3 pm.
The container leaves Maidstone for the docks on 20th March. If you’d like to donate items to be sent out to help our projects, please contact chrisknott@starfishmalawi.com today.
Clothes are always very useful together with items of school stationery and any gardening equipment that might be available for the farming projects that we are involved in.

Hope Clinic make things easier for patients. Corrider Kamanga, senior medical assistant at Hope Clinic has told us the following.
“Physiotherapy plays a vital role in treating physical ailments and fostering resilience and hope among patients by empowering patients with self-management skills and education. Physiotherapists at Hope Clinic enable them to take charge of their health and well-being.”
One of the Health Assistants told us, “We have seen a significant reduction in child mortality rates and an increase in healthy child development and our goal is to provide quality care to every child who walks through Hope Clinic doors.”

Everland Special Needs Centre
The rate of absenteeism has reduced since the introduction of the vehicle which carries all learners with special needs to school in their area.
Learners who were at the Centre are doing well at the mainstream school in their studies.
The programme is making a huge difference in a positive way to the learners that are attending.
They are also accessing timely health services as Hope Clinic is very close to the school.

Bible Explorer
Is run by 4 full time presenters and 11 volunteers in 69 schools across Salima and currently the programme is reaching 14,000 learners annually.
3 new volunteers have been added to the team.
We received props and other teaching resources from Arabella Paul from the UK. These materials are helping in lesson deliveries and keeping the attention of the children focused.
Latifa is a 12-year-old standard 6 learner “The programme has helped me to accept Jesus as the Lord and my personal Saviour after learning what he went through to save our lives and with BX lessons I am beginning to know and understand the Bible easier, as our teachers demonstrate lessons with props and songs.”
