Get Involved
The winter evenings in Malawi can be cold although the days are warm.
We would like to provide as many knitted scarfs as we can to families in the villages where we work.
However, they need to be knitted!
That is where you can help us.
We hope to have a number of our supporting churches and organisations involved in a sponsored, “Knit a Scarf” event.
The idea is for each group to have a number of knitters involved in this event which will take place at the end of September.
Those involved can pick a date to suit their diaries and tell us when they will do it.
What do we need to do?
Each knitter will need to bring a pair of size 6 (5mm) needles and a supply of double knitting wool.
After casting on 30 stitches, they knit for 45 minutes, then have a break for refreshments, then knit for a further 45 minutes.
The knitting is then measured and there will be a small prize for the longest scarf. The knitting is taken home to be finished.
Length of scarf is what it ends up as after 90 mins of knitting!
A guide for the length is for young children 36 inches long and older children 48 inches long.
All the scarfs will then be gathered into one place and sent out to Malawi on the next container due in 2024.

All money raised will be donated to Starfish Malawi, to be used for their work with the children at Glad Tidings Orphan Care and Everland Special Needs Centre.
We really hope that you can encourage a good number of people in your churches and organisations to take part in this event.
Please let Nikkie know if your church or organisation is able to be involved,
and which date in September you will be holding your event.
